First all models and actors/actresses should have a strong drive and desire to be one. There is a lot of work required for both that call you to devote time and money. So devotion is definitely a key step in being successful in the business along with a good attitude. To arrive at your auditions with a positive attitude is very important, it leaves a good footprint with the clients and they will more likely be willing to call you in for more projects and give you a good referral.

As for models, there is a physical standard that is required to be considered for eligibility. Most models in the fashion industry keep within a range of someone who is 5’8” to 6’ tall and from a size 8 to a size 0, also depending on the client, requirements do vary but for the most part usually a tall, slender and long legged figure is desired. Also striking distinguished characteristics are desired such as a strong jaw line for men and large luscious lips for women. So whether it is something minor or something prominent, uniqueness is something desirably called for in the industry.

As for actors/actresses one of the main things clients look for is presentation, how the individual puts himself out there. Are they outgoing and able to funnel their energy in a controlled and professional way? For them to present themselves professionally is important because it shows that you can be an independent businesses person who will show your clients that you can be self motivated. Also being able to act is as important as the previous qualities, and bringing them all together will help you be a good and professional actor that clients will want to work with.

There are a lot of important elements to the industry that are key and vital. One for instance is the make-up artist, the make-up artist is very important. They allow the features of the model to be highlighted and brought out. The slightest touch with color can bring a very dark, mysterious look to the eyes or a very warming, seductive look. So make up can adapt the model to the environment in which the client is looking for and that is why it is so important because it allows the model to become more useful to the client.

Another is clothing, and the model wearing the clothes. Both go hand in hand because the model and the clothes combined are in itself the expression in which the designer is trying to express. Models with more subtle looks bring softness to what they wear, and models who have more defined looks can bring more of an edge to the clothes and vice versa. Clothing also says something about what market you are trying to reach. There are neutral, conservative and extreme clothes that appeal to a certain crown more so than others.

Last but not least is photography, which is important in many different ways to the industry. One is that it is used to project and capture the fashion to a mainstream audience, which are the people who pick up the magazines and are the consumer shoppers. A designer can then send their message to a certain audience through promotion or ads. It is also important in portfolios; models can set up their portfolios with numerous photos and other multimedia involving that which the photographer helped produce to show to the clients. It helps present the model in a serious, independent, and professional way. It also helps to capture moments expressed by the model that help set the mood of the environment

The acting and modeling industry is different than any other type of career choice that you may have thought of. There are many steps to the process from; I want to do it, till actually booking a job. The most important step in the process is making the choice that you want to dedicate time, energy, and sweat into becoming a great actor/model; because it is not as easy as it looks. Millions of people a year strive to become an actor/model millions of people fail miserably trying to achieve this goal. With that said if you want to become an actor/model you should make sure to have the following things.

 1. GREAT PHOTOGRAPHY
2. Know what the heck you are doing before trying to be the best
3. Have a support group of friends/agents/family around you to get you through the hard times.

This is industry is really tough to start from scratch; but if that is where you are at then don’t be scared to start from there. Go out get you some amazing headshots. Then go find an acting/modeling coach that sees potential in you. Then find an agent that markets and pounds the streets helping to find you work. You will not start out with a speaking role in a movie or a cover of a magazine; but at this point in your career anything to put on your resume is a plus.

You need to be strong willed and hard headed at times to become a great actor/model. There is always someone bigger and better than you are trying to take over your spot. So with that said, I do believe that anyone can become an actor/model with the right help, motivation, and heart. So if this is what you want to do. THEN GO FOR IT!!!!! And don’t let anyone stop you on your way to the top!!

I started with this company 3 years ago as a scout. Wow that was a hard transition in my life. Came into the industry with no real previous experience and met with a person working here. He began to open my eyes to the amazing world of acting and modeling. So I began to go out to malls, clubs, and concerts, scouting for what I thought could be a good actor/model. I did this for a little over a year and a half.

Then out of nowhere I got this amazing promotion to become a New Face Director here in the office. The company relocated me to Las Vegas. This was one of the most amazing adventures that I have ever had in my life. I moved here from a small city in Alabama, transitioning to this big city fast life of being a talent agent. They taught me everything I needed to know about becoming a solid acting/modeling agent. They taught me how to be tactful, respectful, and confident. It was the most amazing time of my life. Over the next year I did this and did this very well. I was really good at picking talent that had real potential. My talent have appeared in anything from Monday Night Football, Super Bowl Commercials, Wii Video Games covers, Play station 3 video game covers. Having my talent do this work is the most thrilling part of my life. Sitting at home and seeing my talent book this type of work is my most amazing accomplishment.

Looking back on my career here; I would not change anything in the world. I owe more than you could ever imagine to this company. They have taken me from being a kid with no experience, and turning him into a professional business man. So if you are ever thinking of working for Tru Talent Management then I would recommend that to anyone in the world.

There are many things an actor needs to have before actually getting on to a movie set for a major or even a minor role in a film. We like to refer to these things as “tools of the trade.” An aspiring actor may be very good at one or several aspects of acting yet may still require knowledge of many more aspects before being ready for a major audition and role.

Let’s say for example an aspiring actor comes in to meet with an agent about beginning a career as an actor. First he/she will need to do a “cold read” (lines from a script) so the agent can determine what level of skill is possessed at that point. That person may do very well at that point but still lacks the full emotional content needed to pull of the piece and land the role in an audition, or may not have made sufficient eye contact. Perhaps that actor did not know how to “slate for the camera” (Stating name and representing agency). There may be a variety of things that were not present at that cold read thus necessitating additional knowledge. This is where the needed trade tools are going to be needed.

Among the tools are knowledge of such things like cold reading techniques, the language pertaining to the film industry, head shots (pictures of the actor), technical aspects of auditioning for movie roles and commercials, finding one’s mark, understanding comedic and dramatic timing for scenes involving two or more actors, being able to “go to that place” in one’s mind to draw the necessary emotions needed to make a piece “come alive.”

All of these tools and knowledge are necessary for an actor to acquire if success in the industry is to be had. These essential tools are gathered through rigorous training and lots of practice. Every actor of note has these tools and has studied hard to get them. Moreover, there is not an actor alive that has not had training and who does not continue to train as his or her career progresses. Acquiring these tools is not enough. An actor must continually train in order to hone the skills and to sharpen the mind so that no matter what part comes up the actor is ready to meet the challenge.

This acting thing of ours is a very strange thing. It is so strange that the average person can never do it or understand it. It is alive and vibrant. It fills audiences with excitement, intrigue and wonder. Why? Because it appeals to the senses and makes a human feel all tingly inside. To use an eastern idea, real acting or excellent acting is actually “acting without acting.” That may sound kind of contradictory but it makes perfect sense.

We have a saying in acting; “don’t get caught acting,” and “if you need eye drops for a crying scene then you better go back to the workshop” until you can cry. Here is the explanation: Acting is really the “stuff of everyday life.” The reactions to a particular event one has experienced are sometimes vivid memories or reflections of emotions experienced while living. The concept of acting involves the reflecting upon these events and emotions and then drawing from them to create reality.

An actor sends a message in a particular piece performed and that is done very subtly.

It can be a message of love, hope, despair, anger or insanity but it must be sent and be felt by the audience. It has to be a performance that captivates and draws full attention the people who are striving for your attention. When an actor has the stuff of life to draw from and does so effectively causing the audience to feel the emotion and believe it, then that actor has done a great job. So the concept of acting is not to fake it or become someone else but to be one’s self and draw from every source of experience to make a role come to life and be felt. Acting is about feeling and being heard, seen and FELT.

There are multiple factors when your goal is becoming a model. There are places for models of all age/sex/race/height/weight. What is going to set you apart?

The first thing you should ask yourself is “Can you take a great picture.” When you get in front of the camera does your personality show through and boost the photos aesthetic qualities and overall effectiveness? A pretty face that is lifeless in front of the camera will do you no good. So build a quality and extensive portfolio, it may take an investment on your part, but as in all things you get out what you put in.

Confidence is also a key factor. Confidence represents power and power is irresistible. And being irresistible sells products. And at the root of modeling, as any other business, profitability is the bottom line. As a model you don’t just sell products you become the product or part of the idea that is the product. You should be fearless and disregard negative thinking; a poor mindset will impede your career.

Being of fit mind and determined should also be at the top of your list. Models often work long hours and it can take its toll if you are not mentally prepared. Self discipline is very important, no one likes to work with a model that needs to be pushed and prodded to do their job. Not to mention a go getter attitude will win you jobs and further your career. Set attainable goals for you, and as you achieve those goals set the bar higher.

Remain fit and understand nutrition. You don’t have to be a waif, but diet and exercise drastically affect your look. Skin tone/quality/clarity is directly tied into diet and exercise.

Being able to handle the stress of the job is key. Fashion is an extremely competitive industry and is stressful accordingly. Deadlines bottom lines and budgets have to be met. So it is important to find ways to relax during work and after work. Stress can mean the difference between a great shoot and a terrible shoot. And stress free living is a great thing in and of itself.

Lastly find places to be discovered. Knowing where you fit into the great scheme of things will improve your chances of finding work tenfold. A huge part of that is the right agent and agency. Representation is key; the right agent will book and put you where you belong. An agent can also make sure you have a lasting enduring career. So your relationship with your agent or agency is paramount.

What I am going to tell you is not always applicable, but in some cases, an actors career might begin with some modeling assignments. I tell you this because both careers are kind of intertwined. Models can get jobs that feature them on magazines, in newspapers, on billboards, on posters, in advertisements, and even on packages found at your local grocery store. In general, models can earn anywhere from $40 to $300 per hour.

The main objective of a model is to present a face that people find attractive and that they can relate a certain product or service to. Therefore models can either be drop dead gorgeous or they can look like the sweet girl next door. In most cases, modeling will open the door for these individuals to enter the acting industry.

One of the biggest keys in taking your modeling career and breaking into the acting industry is finding a great acting agent or agency to represent you. There are some things that you can do to ensure that you find a good talent agent or agency to represent you.

One thing that you should look for in an agent or agency is the comfort level and communication between you and them. At Tru Talent Management, you have the ability to work with coaches and agents one on one. This gives you an opportunity for their agents to get to know you as an individuals and an actor. If you have an open line of communication and a strong relationship with your agent, you will find that more opportunities will come your way.

I is vital to keep in mind that your agent or agency will be a decisive factor of your success in the industry. Tru Talent has many connections within the modeling and acting industry to help get your name and face in front of the people who matter.
